Before You Switch to the Verizon iPhone, Think About These 3 Things

I know tomorrow is pre-order the Verizon iPhone day. I’m sure it’s a holiday somewhere.

But before you make the jump from the of-scorn AT&T network, here are a couple of things you may want to consider before making the full fledge jump to Verizon.

1. No simultaneous voice and data. This may not sound big but it is. When I use my Verizon lines, I didn’t think it would be THAT big of a deal. Well, it’s a year later and I still miss that feature with AT&T. It was so helpful when I was talking to a client, and they’d ask a question about a site or document, and I will pull it up with my AT&T phone. Not so much with Verizon. iPhone people in wait  – Think about that long and hard.

2. The network. I want to say this. I have never dropped a call on Verizon’s network. Ever. Ok, we have that clear. AT&T I can’t say   that, but what I can say is AT&T’s network is faster, dare I say, MUCH FASTER than Verizon’s. I’m sure some will debate, but I can assure you won’t win. I have had just about every phone on both networks, and it’s not close. So, stack 7 million new iPhones on that already slower Verizon network.

I’m concerned my friends. Verizon has the biggest 3G network. AT&T has the fastest which could be a concern when dealing with more mobile data than before.

3.  Price Plans. This may favor Verizon. Right now they are offering the unlimited data package for $30.00 which is excellent because  you will eat some data. But you have to deal with a 2 year contract. That’s not a big deal but AT&T doesn’t have unlimited data right now.  They have a 2GB for $25.00 plan that isn’t that attractive.  I would not be surprised to see that change soon. Of course, we could see Verizon eliminating that unlimited package after they have a few million new subscribers – which could be next week although unlikely.

I can see AT&T’s network improving with the prospect of losing millions of subscribers. That may be good news for a carrier trying to repair its reputation.
